At Church Lane We always encourage a pre-placement visit by the young person, their social worker and family and can also develop pre-placement outreach where required. Education and Additional Supports Within the communityof Five Rivers we believe that all children and young people should have access to education and learning, appropriate to their age and understanding.
We are able to offer a range of local options from reintegration to mainstream school through to colleges and community based educational projects in addition, Therapeutic assessments, treatment programmes and other support services can be arranged as required all teams are supported by our external Pillars of Parenting Chartered Psychologist (This is an inclusive part of placement plans at Church Lane)
Admissions are planned in advance with other agencies or our own services to enable the individuals objectives and needs to be refined and so that a pre-placement visit can occur by the individual or placing authority. Residential Practitioners are trained and professionally supervised to deliver The Pillars of Parenting ‘Authentic Warmth’ model, which is a theoretical model of childcare based on confirmed psychological research and founded upon the impact of parental rejection.
This innovative model enables the team to work using appropriate parenting techniques combined with emotional support. Ensuring practitioners are empowered with the psychological theory, knowledge base and skills to understand and respond to the emotional trauma and rejection which many looked-after children endure.
The unit also has a Chartered Psychologist who works weekly with our team to provide an expert clinical oversight and assists to deliver a range of psychological services including: strategising appropriate, targeted interventions; therapeutic communication and regular ongoing assessments to ensure that the young person is progressing and any further needs are being identified. Our practitioners are experienced in working with children that have been left traumatised by their past and recognise the impact that parental rejection has on the child or young person’s emotional developmental and needs.
We can only accept placement programmes based upon clearly defined objectives which are tailored toward individuals psychological needs. A specialst Pillars of Parenting Assessment can be provided as part of these placements however, we can link into our other emergency services or our local Residential Assessment Centre to facilitate a planned move.
We believe in promoting the strengths of all young people regardless of past experience or behaviour and that all young people need adults who will share and promote their individuals ambitions. All requests for a placement will be considered on their individual merit, staff teams are skilled at finding creative solutions.
