Family Placements Foster Care
Fostering / Foster Care -Case Study:
John was 11 and Mike 6 when they were referred to Five Rivers. The brothers were removed from their parents under a full care order due to drug and alcohol misuse, family chaos & violence and being left in the care of other unsuitable adults. Our Highly trained and well supported Foster Carers target the emotional and developmental needs of Looked-after Children in Specialist Fostering Placements.
Placement Matching Found For Foster Carers:
The placement authority referral required both siblings to remain together with a two parent family. The Foster Carers needed to be positive role models, with no other children in the home and able to offer the commitment required. Of key importance would be their ability to work with a wider team of professionals whilst supporting positive contact with the birth family. Foster Carers Peter and Anne, a married couple, were identified as a good placement match.
Introductions Lead To A Permanent Placement:
Following successful introductory visits over a two week period the brothers moved in permanently with Peter and Anne. They settled in well and enjoyed having their own rooms. John joined the local secondary school and football team making many new friends. Mike initially had some eating and behavioural issues but soon accepted the boundaries that had been established by his Foster Carers. Having never previously been given any education, Mike joined the local primary school and was given special educational needs support. Commitment and Devotion:
The Foster Carers separated 2 years after the placement started and Anne left home and had no further contact with the brothers. This initially unsettled them both, however with support from Five Rivers, Peter was able to continue his committed loving care and devotion to John and Mike.
Achieving Best Outcomes For The Children:
John is now 16 and Mike 11, both have progressed well in their placement and feel secure, valued, stable and loved. They have grown in confidence and learnt the importance of making new attachments. John has recently taken 12 GCSEs at school, and hopes to start AS levels. He wants to go on to University.
Mike received a 100% attendance certificate for his years at primary school, is starting secondary school and enjoys playing rugby and swimming. Peter views both brothers as part of his family and they in turn view his house as their home wanting to stay on into their adulthood. Peter's outstanding efforts have not gone unnoticed and he won a regional Foster Carer Award.
