One Day: Workshop for staff on measurement and assessment:
By the end of this workshop baseline records are completed for each child currently placed and the ongoing assessment and recording systems are explained and put in place
High Performance Team Development
Half Day: Understanding group dynamics and becoming a high-performing team:
Topics include formal and unwritten rule in teams, defining and agreeing roles, clarifying and agreeing objectives, features of dysfunctional and effective teams and developing guidelines for a high-performance team
Parenting Style Assessment
Half day: Explanation of the research on parenting style:
Implications for carers, assessing parenting style. Each member of the team will carry out an assessment of their own parenting style
Understanding And Managing Challenging Behaviour
One Day: The ABC+C approach to understanding and managing disruptive, violent and self-defeating behaviour
Meeting The Child’s Parenting Needs
Half Day: The eight ‘Pillars of Parenting’ turning theory into practice. Members of the team will have four weeks to prepare a 15 minute presentation on one of the ‘Pillars of Parenting’ explaining what it means and how it applies to their work
Adaptive Emotional Development
Half Day: Emotional trauma and recovery. This workshop includes supporting young people on their journey from post-trauma stress as a result of rejection, neglect and abuse to adaptive emotional growth
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Specialist training on topics relating to specific issues raised by the team will be provided when required; examples have included eating disorders and self-injurious behaviour. In addition to the ‘Open College Network’ qualification, a foundation course leading to a degree in Social Pedagogy is being developed
