5 REASONS TO GET IN THE FRAME WITH FIVE RIVERS FOSTERING
Five Rivers Fostering is committed to recruiting and retaining high quality foster carers to meet the current shortfall of 9,000 foster care placements as highlighted by this year's Fostering Network's Get in the Frame campaign (13-26 May) to compliment the campaign we are encouraging local people to consider whether they could provide a loving and supportive home for some of our most vulnerable children and young people and become one of Five Rivers foster carers.
Nicci Willock, Head of the Fostering Service for Five Rivers Child Care, acknowledges that whilst fostering is one of the hardest roles you can undertake and one that requires energy, patience and dedication to care, she also believes it is one of the most rewarding careers, as it is the opportunity to make a huge difference in the lives of children and young people.
Fostering is highly regarded as a professional vocation and attracts people from a wide range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, you can foster whether you are male or female, married, single or in a partnership.
Previous experience of parenting children is not essential and although you do need to have a spare room you do not have to own your home.
Age by itself is not a barrier to foster, as long as you're over 21 years, fit and healthy and are dedicated to improving the lives of children and young people you could become a foster carer.
We understand that becoming a foster carer can seem like a daunting prospect so to assist people in the decision making process we are hosting a series of information events to share what it's really like to be a foster carer, and advise you of the training, support and remuneration you are given in return.
