Residential Child Care, Respite
Five Rivers are actively running comprehensive network of care services for children who have been abused or are in need of specialist care. We are now operating across several regions in England and Ireland.
Focusing on individual problems affecting the development of each child, our staff use multiple resources to prescribe the best programme possible for personal Assessment and treatment programme. Our respite service is frequently used for young people that simply cannot cope with the environment around them.
Five Rivers Crisis Intervention Residential Service offers a 2:1 care ratio from a very experienced team of care professionals providing children with an much needed respite break where possible.
The programme is designed for them to extend themselves in ways they never thought possible. In-depth assessment of each child is performed through ‘fun’ activities incorporated into their individual care programme and it has been particularly successful with children who are usually seen as a ‘problem’ or are at risk of placement breakdown.
All staff are comprehensively trained to deal with challenging behaviour and disaffection and focus is primarily on building success (often hard to accept after years of knowing only failure and rejection) also self-esteem through teaching numeracy, literacy, general knowledge and life skills and thus identifying each child’s preferred way of learning.
Children who are coming out from, or at risk of going into, secure accommodation have found it very beneficial as a short term time-out solution.
Recognising the need for quick admission decisions for children at risk, Five Rivers offers an emergency referral service (vacancy permitting) and our placement team will respond to your call within one hour and all cases are considered, regardless of the young persons.
Our programmes include the safe stabilising environment of a residential unit, the care of a highly trained carer in family placement schemes, educational services (such as supported school placements or one-to-one tuition) and a specialist short term Adventure unit for children finding it difficult to adapt to a normal environment.
In 2010 we aim to develop more schemes throughout the UK to aid as many children as we can.
