Education Model
Five Rivers supports both local authorities and our looked-after children to achieve their full potential by a variety of educational opportunities.
Independent Registered Special Schools
Five Rivers have two schools. One in Salisbury and one in Ilminster, near Taunton. Both schools are registered with the DfE and are co-educational secondary schools (11 - 16).
Pupils are taught a broad and balanced curriculum by fully qualified and experienced staff. The schools are registered examination centres and pupils are encouraged and supported to take accredited qualifications (GCSE's). Both schools also teach vocational education and Btech.
Great emphasis is paid on behaviour as part of an inclusive learning experience. Both schools work closely with care staff to support the child in their educational achievement. Pupils are taught in small groups and have individual tuition where possible.
Home Tuition
Five Rivers recognise that for some children, attending school in not an option at the present time. For these occasions, we are able to provide a home tutor. The home tutor is a fully qualified teacher with an expertise in working with vulnerable children with sometimes challenging behaviour.
E-Learning
For some children who are on home tuition packages we are able to provide E-Learning opportunities under the guidance of the Education Team. The aim is always to guide the child towards reintegration into a mainstream setting.
Five Rivers will always work closely with outside agencies, mainstream schools and the local authority to ensure that the best possible outcomes can be achieved for all looked-after children.
