South and South East
My name is Jem Orman and I am the Fostering Service Manager for the South and South East Fostering Team at Five Rivers.
Our office is based in Salisbury and we have a dedicated team of social workers and a Family Support team that provides day to day advice and guidance to our foster carers across the region, covering Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset, Isle of Wight, and West Berkshire
We have excellent relationships with the local authorities in our area, and we are very proud of being one of only four fostering services in the South West of England rated as “Outstanding” by Ofsted.
We provide a range of placements, from babies and their parents right through to teenagers and children with complex health needs and those with disabilities.
We provide very progressive training for all our carers so you are always developing new skills and knowledge. We see this as an important factor in recognising the professional status of the foster carer and the difference you can make to a child’s future.
Here’s what some of our carers and children say:
“We feel really supported by Five Rivers; it’s very different from our old agency and the support and training is amazing. The social workers are always there when you need them and find ways to help you and the children you are caring for.” Andrea and Tom – recently approved carers transferring to Five Rivers after meeting us at a recruitment event in the New Forest
“I always feel really supported by Five Rivers. The training is amazing, they’re always responsive, including the out-of-hours service when you need them.” Linda, an experienced foster carer who has worked with Five Rivers for 11 years.
“My carers are really nice. They understand me and listen to me. They are the best mum and dad in the world.” Jasmine, aged 5.
“I love all the activities that get arranged – we also get asked the types of things we would like to do and we meet loads of other kids as well. I’ve even done some interviews for a support worker which was really cool.” Daniel, aged 14.
“The agency are always engaging and have a can-do attitude. We know we can just pick up the phone and speak to someone we have a relationship with. They always respond to us quickly and are a very reliable partner.” Local Authority Placement Manager
Our latest Ofsted inspection said: “The agency provides an exceptionally high quality of care and support to its foster carers, who in turn provide the same exceptional quality of care and support to the children and young people. Foster carers enjoy a very positive experience with the agency from their first contact. They are welcomed, given good information, and prepared and assessed as foster carers to a very high standard. Foster carers who have moved to this agency from other independent fostering agencies compare this agency very favourably to their previous experiences.” (Ofsted inspector, December 2017)
I hope you’ll want to proceed with your interest in becoming a foster carer with Five Rivers.
