Foster carers are needed in Devon due to a shortfall of 480 carers across the South West.
Five Rivers’ fostering team are at the North Devon show on Wednesday 1 August.
If you are interested in fostering and would like a chat about fostering opportunities in your local area, why not drop in and speak with one of our staff?
These information events are an informal opportunity to learn more about our fostering services across Devon as we seek to support hundreds of young people currently in need of a foster family.
There has been an increase in the number of children and young people in Devon who need a safe and nurturing place to live, and we are looking for individuals and families who would like to offer long term or time limited placements.
Gerard Connell, Exeter fostering team manager for Five Rivers Child Care said:
“There is an urgent need for Devon residents to step up to the challenge of foster care. Hundreds of children’s lives could be changed for the better by a loving, supporting home and foster family.
“By no means are we suggesting foster care is an easy choice to make. We understand that there are concerns and misconceptions around what it entails. We hope to bring clarity and help understanding the difference local people could make to the life of children and young people.
“We are holding various information events over the coming weeks. These are a great opportunity to come down for an informal, no strings attached conversation about opportunities in foster care.”

People from all walks of life can become foster carers as long as they are over 21 years of age. This includes single people, co-habiting couples, same sex couples and people living in rented accommodation – the only requirement is a private bedroom for each foster child.”
