Therapeutic Crisis Intervention
Beck House is a Specialist Residential Service for looked-after children located in Salisbury, Wiltshire
Beck House is a warm and welcoming singleton residential home located on the outskirts of the Cathedral City of Salisbury in Wiltshire.
- Age: 11- 16
- Capacity: Singleton
- Staffing Ratio 2:1
- Gender: Male or Female
The home can accommodate young people from 11 to 16 years of age, of either gender.
We work with each young person on a staffing ratio of 2:1 providing a secure, bounded home-like environment which is underpinned by therapeutic values of empathy, understanding and positive ‘parenting’.
Our aim is to provide a home for each young person where they feel valued and safe and are able to begin to work through the effects of childhood trauma.
We believe that every child is unique and individual; in view of this, each young person has their own bespoke care package which is developed to suit their needs based on the framework of the five outcomes of Every Child Matters, in partnership with the placing authority and, where appropriate, family and significant others to the young person.
Outcome monitoring is conducted regularly throughout the placement and the young person is encouraged to be fully involved in all the processes surrounding his/her care at Beck House.
Regular consultation is sought from the young person, placing authority, family and significant others as part of all processes of care planning and outcomes monitoring.
Beck Practice Model
Beck House has a small, evenly mixed team of 6 staff plus the Registered Manager, who pride themselves on good clear communication and consistency within their work, providing high standards of role modelling for, encouraging learning naturally in an ‘osmosis’ style.
A single named link worker will be provided to the young person from the team, whose role will be to act as a liaison between them and outside agencies including their placing authority. Although this is the case, at Beck House, we work very much as a ‘body of link workers’ when working with each young person.
Beck Admission Criteria
Young people can be placed at Beck House for short, medium and long term placements up to a maximum of 18 months.
Although we prefer clear planned admissions (over a week), we are able to take emergency (looking for admission within 48 hours) and short notice (2 – 7 days) admissions.
We will support any referring agency to ensure that this is a smooth and planned process, we are able to provide a list of required information to enable all risk assessments to be conducted and for all emergency placements we hold a planning meeting within 72 hours of admission.
Referrals can be made by either contacting the Registered Manager directly, or to the Placements Team.
